With UK business output at a seven month high, firms have stated that their hiring intentions are also at record high levels.
The respected Accountant and business advisor BDO stated that their Optimism Index; which measures UK business output based on how companies expect to perform over the next six months; increased to 100.05 in March, up from 99.78 in February. It said that the rise went against the average long-term trend of 100 for any given month, and is the highest reading since August 2017.
The BDO said that this represents the highest ever projection that it has made for employment in the UK, and that it confidently expects to see a rising upward trend as businesses continue to invest in people. Peter Hemington, partner at BDO, said:
“The performance of both the manufacturing and services sectors is encouraging for the health of the UK economy, and the data suggests there will be an improvement in GDP growth over the next few months. Businesses are retaining a positive outlook…but the recovery remains patchy and febrile with Brexit looming.”
